Bantyx Driver Policies & Terms
Last Updated: September 2026. This driver edition covers drivers partnering with Bantyx in the United States and across Africa (54 active countries, including Cameroon). By accepting rides on the platform, you agree to the following policies and terms, including the country-specific sections for the country you drive in.
Driver essentials: you must meet the Driver Requirements and Vehicle Standards for your country, keep documents valid, follow the Community Guidelines and Safety Policy, and are paid under Driver Payouts — automated Stripe Connect payouts where supported, and payout to your saved bank or mobile-money account number in manual-payout countries (Cameroon and the other active African markets).
Cancellation Policy
We understand that plans can change. Our cancellation policy is designed to be fair to both passengers and drivers.
For Passengers
Free Cancellations:
- You can cancel for free within 2 minutes of your driver accepting the ride.
Cancellation Fees:
A fee may be charged if you cancel after your driver is already on their way. This fee compensates your driver for their time and fuel.
- A Standard Fee ($5.00) applies if you cancel more than 2 minutes after your driver has accepted and is en route.
- A High Fee ($10.00) applies if you cancel after your driver has waited at your pickup location for more than 5 minutes.
- The fee will be automatically charged to your default payment method.
Wait Time Charges
Passenger Wait Time:
Drivers are not required to wait indefinitely. To ensure efficient service for all passengers, the following wait time policy applies:
- The first 2 minutes of wait time at the pickup location are free.
- After the free period, a $0.50 per minute wait time charge applies.
- Drivers may cancel the trip without penalty if they have waited for more than 5 minutes after arriving at the pickup location.
- Wait time charges are added to your final fare automatically.
For Drivers
Fair Cancellations:
You may cancel a trip without penalty if:
- You have waited at the pickup location for more than 5 minutes after arriving.
- You have a legitimate safety concern regarding the pickup location or passenger conduct.
Wait Time Compensation:
When waiting for passengers at the pickup location, you will be compensated for your time after the free wait period:
- The first 2 minutes of wait time are unpaid (free period for passengers).
- After 2 minutes, you earn $0.50 per minute for the time spent waiting.
- Wait time charges are automatically calculated and added to the passenger's fare.
- The wait timer starts automatically when you mark yourself as "Arrived" at the pickup location.
Cancellation Impact:
Your cancellation rate is an important metric. A high cancellation rate can affect your standing on the platform.
- Accepting a ride is a commitment to the passenger.
- Repeated cancellations without a valid reason (as listed above) may lead to a temporary or permanent suspension of your account.
- Missing scheduled rides repeatedly may automatically take you offline until you acknowledge the missed rides.
Pricing & Fares
Bantyx offers three ride categories. Fares are calculated from a base fare plus per-mile and per-minute rates, subject to a minimum fare for each category. Actual fares may vary based on route, traffic, and surge conditions.
| Ride Type | Base Fare | Per Mile | Per Minute | Minimum Fare |
| Car | $2.50 | $1.35 | $0.32 | $7.50 |
| SUV | $3.75 | $2.00 | $0.45 | $10.50 |
| Black | $7.00 | $3.25 | $0.70 | $16.00 |
Surge Pricing
During periods of high demand, such as rush hour, fares may be multiplied by a surge factor. When surge pricing is active, the multiplier is shown in the app before you confirm your ride. Standard fares apply at the default multiplier; during rush hour, a surge multiplier of up to 1.35x may apply.
Fees, Taxes & Tips
- Service fee: A service fee of 20% is applied to ride fares to operate and maintain the platform.
- Taxes: Applicable taxes may be added to fares based on your location, including country-specific tax rates.
- Tips: 100% of any tip you give goes directly to your driver. Suggested tip amounts (15%, 20%, 25%) are shown at checkout.
- Driver earnings: Drivers receive a percentage of each trip fare, with the remaining portion covering platform costs.
Payment Terms
Bantyx supports riders worldwide. Payments are processed securely through continent payment partners — Stripe (Americas, Europe, Asia, Oceania), Flutterwave or Paystack (Africa), and PayPal where offered — with US Stripe as fallback when no local processor is configured. We never store complete payment card numbers on our servers. Available methods per country are published at /api/payment/coverage (231 countries, 5 continents).
Passenger Payments
- Supported methods (by country): cash (where the country allows it — not offered in the United States), credit & debit cards, local mobile money wallets (Orange Money, MTN MoMo, and others where shown), PayPal (where offered), and promotional credits.
- Passengers authorize charges at the time a ride is requested or completed.
- Cards are charged at the end of each trip based on the fare displayed in the app, plus any applicable taxes and tips.
- Promotional balances or credits may be applied toward fares where eligible.
- Methods not available in your country are hidden at checkout; the app shows what you can use before you confirm.
Fees & Taxes

| Service fee | 20% of the ride fare |

| Driver tips | 100% of tips go to the driver |
| Currency | Charges are processed in your local currency where supported |
Chargebacks and Payment Disputes
Chargeback abuse — initiating payment disputes without a valid reason — is prohibited and may result in account suspension. If a chargeback is initiated, we may provide trip evidence to the payment processor to support resolution.
Driver Payouts
Drivers earn a percentage of each trip fare plus 100% of tips received through the app.
| Item | Details |
| Driver incentive share | 70% of each trip fare |

| Minimum balance | A minimum balance may be required before a payout is released |
Earnings Forfeiture
Drivers terminated for fraud or policy violations may forfeit outstanding earnings or payouts. Payouts associated with fraudulent trips may be reversed.
Driver Agreement
Bantyx drivers are independent contractors, not employees. This agreement governs drivers who use the platform to provide rides.
Independent Contractor Status
Drivers control when they are online, which ride requests they accept, and the routes they take. Drivers are not required to accept any particular ride request and may go offline at any time.
Driver Standards
- Drivers must comply with all applicable traffic and passenger transport laws.
- Drivers must keep trip details and passenger information confidential.
- Drivers must not solicit cash payments or off-platform rides.
- Drivers must not request or accept tips outside the platform.
Compensation
Drivers earn 70% of each trip fare plus 100% of tips. Payouts are scheduled automatically after each trip and paid through the payout rail available in your country (Stripe Connect, PayPal, or manual bank/mobile-money release where automated payouts are not supported).
Driver Requirements
To ensure safety and quality across the platform, drivers must meet the following requirements before going online and accepting trips.
Eligibility
- Drivers must submit a valid driver's licence, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance.
- Vehicles must be approved for one of the supported ride categories (Car, SUV, or Black).
- A minimum number of vehicle photos is required for vehicle verification.
- Drivers must operate in a supported service area. Service areas are configured by region and are subject to availability.
- Driver accounts from restricted regions are not accepted.
- Drivers must be at least 18 years old.
Online Status
- Drivers may go online only after completing account and vehicle requirements.
- Drivers who miss the ride acceptance window repeatedly may be temporarily taken offline.
- Drivers may be required to acknowledge missed rides before returning online.
Document Review
- Documents are reviewed for validity before a driver is approved.
- Expired or rejected documents must be updated before the driver can continue driving.
- Document review decisions are final unless the driver submits updated or corrected documents.
Vehicle Standards
Vehicles on Bantyx must be approved for one of the supported ride categories and maintained to a safe, clean standard.
- Vehicles must pass verification for the ride category they are registered under (Car, SUV, or Black).
- Vehicles must be in good working condition with valid registration and insurance.
- Drivers must keep their vehicle clean and free of strong odors.
- Vehicles must match the make, model, and license plate shown to passengers before pickup.
- Drivers must update vehicle details promptly if they change.
Scheduled Rides
Bantyx allows passengers to schedule rides in advance. Scheduled rides are matched to drivers near the scheduled time.
- Scheduled rides must be created at least 15 minutes before the desired pickup time.
- Drivers are notified approximately 15 minutes before a scheduled pickup.
- Scheduled ride timing depends on driver availability in the area at the scheduled time.
- Passengers should be ready at the scheduled pickup time, as drivers may not wait longer than 5 minutes before cancelling the ride.
Missed Rides
Repeatedly missing ride requests affects reliability for passengers and other drivers.
- Missing 3 ride requests in a row automatically takes the driver offline.
- The driver must acknowledge the missed rides before going back online.
- Manual rejections of ride requests do not count toward the missed-rides threshold.
- Drivers who do not respond within the ride acceptance window are considered to have missed the request.
Safety Policy
Safety is our top priority. Both passengers and drivers are expected to follow these rules on every trip.
During the Trip
- Drivers must follow the in-app navigation route and obey all traffic laws.
- Live trip sharing lets trusted contacts follow a ride in real time.
- Passengers should only ride in the vehicle they were matched with.
- Both parties may end a trip early if they feel unsafe.
Verification
- Passengers and drivers should verify each other's identity (name, vehicle, and plate) before starting a trip.
- Driver verification checkpoints may be required before a driver can start earning.
Emergency
If you are ever in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first, then report the situation through the app so our team can assist.
Refund Policy
Refunds for trips, cancellation fees, or other charges are handled on a case-by-case basis.
- To request a refund, contact support within a reasonable time of the charge and include your trip or receipt details.
- Refunds for incorrect charges, duplicate payments, or technical failures are processed back to the original payment method.
- Cancellation fees may be refunded if the cancellation was caused by a system error or the driver did not arrive.
- Refund processing times depend on your payment method and bank or card issuer.
Refund Disputes
If you believe your refund was processed incorrectly, contact Bantyx support within 30 days of the refund decision. Our team will review the case and make a final determination.

Active African countries (54): Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, São Tomé and PrÃncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Rollout: a country is enabled first, then regions and cities are opened one by one. You only receive requests inside an active service area; outside it the app reports that Bantyx is not yet available in that location.
Availability & Service Areas (Africa)
- Service availability is determined hierarchically: an active country, then an active region, then an active city. Requests, fares and payment methods are only available within active areas.
- You may only go online in a country where you are legally entitled to drive and where Bantyx is enabled.
- Bantyx is a technology platform connecting independent drivers with passengers; it is not a transportation carrier and does not employ drivers. Drivers act as independent contractors.
Driver Documents & Vehicle Standards (Africa)
- In addition to the general Driver Requirements, you must hold the documents required in your operating country: a valid driving licence, national identity document, vehicle registration, insurance or equivalent cover, and a roadworthiness or inspection certificate where local law requires one.
- Documents are reviewed before approval; expired or rejected documents must be replaced before you can continue driving.
- Your vehicle must meet the local minimum vehicle standards for passenger transport and remain in a roadworthy condition at all times while online.
- You are responsible for complying with local labour, tax and road traffic rules applicable to your engagement as an independent driver.
